I’m Heather, I’ve worked in Accounts Payable since 2012 and those years have been filled with lessons. I had to learn those lessons the hard way.

As a new manager I found myself overwhelmed, sifting through information that ended up being a commercial for products promising full P2P automation. I was lost in the sea of internet AP simplification created to sell tech products. It was hard to distinguish between good advice and salesmanship.

I’m posting here for new AP Managers who might not know where to start their journey or how to end frustrations they encounter. As a way to help burn out, this is a place to remind AP employees, controllers, and CFOs how impressive AP actually is.

There are plenty of resources out there to give you insight into the tech you can use to improve your AP department. I’d like to instead enhance that information with lessons I’ve learned from the front lines. Regardless of which system you are using, I hope to inspire you to rethink the role of AP.
